Samsung Q4 Profits Triple to Record High on AI Memory Chip Demand
Samsung Electronics shattered records with a threefold surge in fourth-quarter operating profit, reaching 20.1 trillion won ($15 billion), as demand for AI server memory and a global shortage of advanced chips fueled unprecedented earnings. The memory division, particularly high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI workloads, drove the rebound, eclipsing 2018’s previous peak.
Revenue climbed to 93.8 trillion won ($65.6 billion), surpassing analyst forecasts. HBM’s role in generative AI infrastructure has created a supply crunch, with firms like Nvidia scrambling for allocations. Samsung’s strategic pivot to high-value segments through its Device Solutions unit is now yielding dividends.
